Audience Research Results and how it impacted our ideas

My group then decided to be more specific to the genre that we have to make a trailer for this is why my group then decided to ask people that were taking part in my groups survey weather or not they liked horror films or not.
As you can see 80% of the people that took part in my groups survey said that they did like horror films this made my group feel positive that the research that was about to take place would give us a good idea about whether people would be interested in watching are film. As if the idea alone drags in an audience then it means we can use that in order to hold the audience but if it can’t then this means that my group has to try even harder with the trailer in order to entice an audience to come and watch our group’s film.

My group then decided to ask the people taking part in are survey what specific sub-genres of horror films they watched.  As you can see the most popular was zombie this means that according to my group’s survey the most popular sub-genre of horror film at the moment is the zombie horror as nearly 70% of the people that took part in my group’s survey like zombie horrors.
This is closely followed by the sub-genera of suspense as according to the people that took part in my groups survey they stated that 55% of all the people to take part in this survey  like suspenseful horrors.
This was followed by the sub-genre of supernatural and other at 50%. This showed my group how much work we needed to put in in order to captivate an audience because the type of horror that my group is making is in joint third position of popularity. We need to make sure that we can entice and appeal to a larger audience then just supernatural fans. The option of other was put there just in case my group hadn’t managed to put the option the person answer the survey liked or it someone had said that they didn’t watch horror films and then went on to answer this question.

My group then thought that the most appropriate question to ask was how often people watch films. As my group hadn’t bothered asking people if they watched films in the first place my group decided to put in the choice of never so people that don’t watch films can chooses the Never option.
As this chart shows most people that took part in this survey said that they watched film often with very often a close second this shows that most people that took part in my groups survey like to watch films this shows that most of the people taking part in this survey know what attracts them to watching films.

My group then decided to ask the participant of our survey how often the go and watch a film at the cinema this would give my group a good idea of how often a film trailer gabs the attention of our participants.
As you can see the most common answer was every few months as 45% of participants that took part in my group’s survey answered this. This was closely followed by 30% of the people that took part saying that they only go to watch a film once or twice a year. Then accord to the results that my group found there when to being only a 5% difference between the next two answers the participants answers are as follows more than once a month was 15% and once a month was 10% of participants.
This shows that most people to take part in my groups survey find enticing trailers every few months and that the participants in my groups survey rarely go once a month.

One of the aims of my group was to find out the prospective audiences age and gender. The pie chart above, labelled Gender, show that an average half of the people that took part in this survey is male and a quarter of the survey participants are female with a further quarter hat preferred not to say.

the survey participants that didn’t answer their gender felt more comfortable answering their age as shown by the pie chart above labelled Age as only 20 per cent of people answering this survey chose to skip this question. It also showed me and my group that most of the people to answer are survey were 18 or 17 this means they are in the late teenage stage of their life cycle concluding that they are more likely to have a job and therefore more likely to spend money enjoying themselves going to watch films.

As you can see the people my group surveyed stated that promotional material did influence their decision to go and watch a film this suggested to me and my group that the more we promote our film the more likely people are going to go, or at least would be prepared to pay to go, and watch our film.
This question was inspired by the research that me and my group had done on the women in black as we discover that the fact that Daniel Radcliff played Arthur Kipps drew in a lot of people to watch the film that normally wouldn’t have gone to see it.
Therefore, it suggested to us that an actor can have a huge influence on weather people go to watch a film or not. As 74% of the people that took part in my groups survey that an actor would infuse them to go and watch a film.
Unfortunately my group only has unknown actors that have very little previous acting experience in the trailer that my group is planning to produce.
My group when on to ask the people that took part in our survey if they would be likely to go and watch a film at hey think they might enjoy his question was asked to see if people would go and watch a film that they think looks exciting despite the fact they hey might not be able to afford to o and watch a film or people may not want or are just unable to go with them. Or would they not go to the cinema and would they just prefer to wait for the film to come out on DVD.
As you can see 85% of the participants that took part in my group’s survey would go to the cinema rather than wait for the film to come out on DVD. As only 15% of the total participants to take part in my groups would wait for a film to come out on DVD then go and watch it in the cinema.
This proves to my group that if we can make our trailer look exciting enough people will be more than likely to good and watch our film if it was to be released in cinemas.
